To ensure your child is successful in school, parents are encouraged to do the following:
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school.
  • Make sure your children understand they are coming to school to learn.
  • Do everything possible to help your children get to school regularly and on time.
  • Children should be well-groomed and dressed appropriately for school activities and weather conditions.
  • Instill proper attitude with regard to correct lunchroom behavior and good table manners.
  • Provide a quiet time and space for studying.
  • Review children's homework assignments to ensure that they are accurate and complete.
  • Parents of children in grades 3-6 are  asked to sign the assignment notebook.
  • Participate in parent/school groups.
  • Attend school functions, including Local School Council monthly meetings which are held the first Monday of each month.
  • Make an appointment to see your child's teacher if there is a problem.
  • Plan to attend Report Card Pick-up Days.
(See dates on Calendar for November and April)
  • Routinely check that your child has adequate supplies and replace as needed.
  • Recognize your child's special gifts – admire and love him; help to strengthen his weaknesses.
  • Teach children to respect themselves and others.
  • Praise and correct children.
  • Teach children self-discipline.
  • Give your child responsibilities, provide rules and reasonable guidelines.
  • Listen, read to and talk with children in any language.
  • Encourage children to find and use words that express their thoughts.
  • Monitor television programs that children watch and encourage  the viewing of educational programs.
  • Visit the community library with children and obtain library cards.
  • Parents should schedule regular family visits to the library and withdraw books to read to their children.
  • Encourage hobbies and interests, such as, sports, music, collections, pets, or handicrafts.
  • Encourage children to use community cultural facilities (museums, theaters, etc.) to extend and enrich their education.
